Running Accomplishments:

My first 5k was August 23, 2014. I placed third but failed to write down my finishing time.

My personal bests:

5k - 28:52

6k - 36:17

10k - 1:05:8

Half marathon (trail run) my only half so far - 3:08:06. I think I was down more than I was up, lol.

Short-Term Running Goals:

My short term running goal is to run another half marathon this coming September. I had a long bout of vertigo that caused me to miss 3 halfs in January and February of this year. I am still trying to work my distance runs back up to 14 miles. It's been more difficult than before the vertigo.

Long-Term Running Goals:

I am in the process of training for my first marathon. Once I get to that point, I will start working on my speed because my ultimate goal is to qualify for the Boston Marathon and run it with my daughter, Tiffany.

Personal:

I began running in 2013, but my story began in January of 2012. My granddaughter, Ariana, had just turned 5. She got real sick, was hospitalized, and diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. I was totally devastated because being a nurse, I knew what a rough road was a head of her. After a year of watching Ariana and my daughter, Tiffany, struggle with this very strict, unforgiving disease I realized that I needed a way to vent/cope. That's when I laced up my running shoes for the first time in years and headed out to run. I found running to be a tremendous help. When I would get tired, sore, etc. and thought about giving up I would think about Ariana who did not have a choice. If she could endure this disease, I could endure whatever running threw at me, and I would push myself harder. Running was the therapy I needed. In August of 2014 I ran my first 5k. Halfway through the race I thought, "What the heck was I thinking?" I crossed the finish line feeling exhausted, sick to my stomach and headed straight to the porta potty. I began feeling a sense of accomplichment I have never felt before. I placed third and was totally stoked. Thus, my love for competitive running began.
